was wondering how you guys made something like the banner here stand out or bevel out like it does, I mean like how it seems to layer up from a big base to a smaller base then the orb, also the two vent looking metal pieces on each side.

Think someone can make a tut about that?

That is made by just creating the new shapes on different layers and adding them on top of each other :)

I think the metal tuts really teach you how to do that. The bevel/emboss layer style can be nice, but as xcess said, lots of good lighting is what generally works best.

I use a mix of bevel and light effects. Though I don't like hard bevels. I soften by 16 if using them with a lighting effect.

That was done using bevels then overlays and dodge and burn. So yeah, bevels can be used for stuff like this forum.
