Well the textures are mostly brushes with various bevel and layer effects on low opacity/soft light. But the lighting is just HOURS of brushing + dode&burn. Ive got a tutorial in the works the teaches the basics of it but theres no 2 ways around the brushing, its really what makes a piece and it can only be learned by trial and error in my experience. Or a video tut >_>...

Hours? That sounds -very- long. But what sorts of brushes? Grunge?

Basicly any brushes, grunge mainly.
Another what to make a quick metal effect is to add noise to the layer you want the metal on and set it quite high. Then add a motion blur and make it quite high as well and make sure it is on a slight angle. Then just lower the opacity of that layer slightly.
I will make a tutorial for it. The outcome is not as good as it would be if you spent hours on it, but it is at least a quick way of making a nice metal look.

For the lighting i use small soft brushes and smudge them around. For texture grunge and fractal.

I'll go check out the tut you made.
@jye- Should the layer be selected (like when you ctrl click the layer on a PC or command click the layer on a mac) so the motion blur doesn't go outside of the shape?

Yes you can do that as well, unless you would like too manually go around and remove any of the motion blur that extended beyond the edges of the image. I just added a tutorial to the tutorials section of the way i suggested. Take a look

I have an anti vista badge that I wear to school. Gets a few laughs. I do hate vista though. It sucks.
